Reflection, refraction, interference and diffraction, visible to the whole room in minutes.

As a compact teaching and laboratory device, the ripple tank provides a clear and quantitative approach to wave mechanics in secondary and higher education. With a frequency range of 5 to 60 Hz and an optional second vibration generator, classic phenomena such as reflection, refraction, interference, diffraction, and the Doppler effect can be investigated. Simply take it out of the cabinet, fill it with water, and start: the ripple tank is immediately ready for use, nearly silent, and particularly easy to operate.

Two sources, one frequency. Raise the frequency and the wavelength shrinks, packing the interference lines closer together.
Bring this to your lab →Add water, choose continuous or stroboscopic LED illumination, and the tank is ready in minutes.
Set the exciter from 5 to 60 Hz, or add a second vibration generator with adjustable phase for two-source interference.
Freeze the pattern with the stroboscope and measure wavelengths, angles and interference spacing.
Two-source interference, one of the classic patterns students can create and measure (illustrative).
Yes. Units supplied through American Scientific are adapted for 110V/60Hz and supported in the U.S., including warranty and replacement parts.
Tell us about your lab in the form above and we'll put together a complete, ready-to-teach configuration, so nothing is missing on day one.
Often, yes. Many institutions fund PHYWE equipment through NSF, Title IV and CTE programs, and our team can help you find and apply for the right opportunity.
